Late Bowie: Legacy, Mortality and the Archival Impulse

14 September 2026

The studio hosts Late Bowie: Legacy, Mortality and the Archival Impulse on 5 and 6 November 2026, a two-day conference on Bowie's late work and what has happened to it since: the music, the self-curation of persona and image, the collaborations, his death, and the posthumous reshaping of the legacy.

Three keynotes. Harriet Reed, Bowie archivist at V&A East Storehouse. Peter Carpenter, author of Bowieland. And the graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook.

Alongside the papers there is a V&A archive workshop, a screening of Mark Jenkin's David Bowie Is Dead, and a free walking tour of Bowie's London on the Saturday morning.

It runs 9.45 to 17.30 on the Thursday and 10.00 to 17.45 on the Friday, and it falls in the studio's tenth year. Researchers, students, and practitioners are all welcome, across music, film, literature, design, cultural studies, and archive studies.

Organised by Leah Kardos and Matt Melia. Booking is through the Kingston store.
